Musings from the 2nd floor window
My office is on the second floor overlooking the center of the downtown mall. Outside, 4 large willow oaks stand sentinel, shading the diners at the two very popular restaurants underneath my window. The fountain by the courtyard delights children, who throw their mother’s pennies into it. These pennies later are usually retrieved by the street people who also enjoy sitting by the cooling sight of the water.
Street vendors, refugees from Tibet, have brightly colored wares that they sell in their stall all seasons. It always astounds me how weather never stops them…
And the jewelry stalls stand sparkling in the sun, also season-long.
Hot dog carts, gelato carts, sno-cone carts come and go.
People gather and disperse.
Musicians, street performers, Morris dancers, Christmas choral singers, cheerleaders, all serenade those gathered outside as well as entertain me upstairs.
They don’t know I can see out on all the activities. I don’t suppose anyone looks up to my window and wonders who’s up there. But I see it all from my vantage point.
And I consider all these random people my family.
