Morris Dancers on the Mall

Every spring a group of Morris dancers come to practice and compete on the downtown mall and luckily for me, they dance right under my window! For more information check out Wikipedia’s definition.

Apparently there are many groups of Morris dancers in Charlottesville, Albemarle and surrounding areas.
This gathering was in honor of the Albemarle Men who were celebrating their 30th anniversary of dancing. From what I understand, these men represent the traditional groups from the Cotswolds in England.

This group wear the costume of the Border dancers, from the border of Wales and England. They are a scary bunch of lads with painted faces. But I do love the brightly colored outfits!
